The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar. - 1 Kings 6:20
When studying religion, mystery schools, and the occult, there is an interesting convergence of symbolism that manifests. An overlap of three thematic elements stands out. This substack will cover that convergence, namely: the number seven, the black cube, and Saturn.
BLUF: The number seven transcends culture, geography, and time. The number seven is partially tied to the symbology of the black cube, and more specifically, as a representation of one of the seven Classical Planets, is directly tied to Saturn.
Introduction:
The convergence of the black cube, the number seven, and the celestial body Saturn forms a nexus of symbolism found across various myths, religious traditions, and occult practices. In Western occultism and astrology, Saturn is often emblematic of restriction and materiality, with its symbolism intertwined with the concept of a black cube representing material form and constraints.
Within Islam, the Kaaba in Mecca, a cubic structure draped in black cloth, holds esoteric connections to the cube, the number seven, and Saturnian associations. In Jewish mysticism, or Kabbalah, interpretations align the black cube, the seventh sphere on the Tree of Life, and Saturn, revealing intricate connections within the Sephirotic framework.
Additionally, Hermetic traditions incorporate Saturnian symbolism, linking the black cube to material existence. Ancient mythologies and symbolism also contribute to the significance of the number seven as sacred, often associated with cosmic order and the slow movement of Saturn through the zodiac, embodying a sense of time and structure. These esoteric associations offer a glimpse into the rich tapestry of occult symbolism and interpretation across diverse cultural and mystical traditions.
In certain esoteric or occult interpretations, speculative connections have been drawn between Saturn and Satan, although these associations are not universally accepted. Within Western occultism, Saturn is symbolically linked to limitation and the constraints of the physical world, aligning with the aspects of restriction often associated with Satan. The black cube imagery is also connected to Saturn in some esoteric traditions, representing material form and the limitations of the earthly realm.
Furthermore, in Gnostic tradition, the demiurge depicted as a lesser, blind deity who creates the physical universe but lacks awareness of the higher, transcendent realms, portrays the demiurge as an entity that traps human souls in the material world, hindering their spiritual ascent.
